Illustrative rendering in Team Fortress 2

The Orange Box is almost here and I can’t wait to get my mits on Team Fortress 2. I wasted a whole summer back in ‘97 when I finally moved into a dorm with broadband. Within minutes of installing a network card, I was downloading Quakeworld and booting up the original Quake Team Fortress mod. It was glorious!

Below, is a clip Valve released showing the art direction of the game. It’s pretty impressive how much thought and planning went into the visuals. The looks aren’t just about style. Every design element was put in place to enhance the gaming experience and game play. It’s what good design is all about!
